If you want a really tough boot, this is the one.  The leather and the sole are as tough as kids boots get. Extra wide welt around the sole helps the sole to stay on, (even on rough surfaces), and helps protect from so many scuffs on the toe of the boot. 

Most kid's boots only come in one width, but for a wide foot, this broader toe box allows more width at the toes.
