If you're familiar with better
quality cowboy boots, you understand the value that handcrafted
boots can provide. If they are new to you, you have
a great experience to come! (They get better with time, just like an old
friend.) The word, "charro"
actually means a skilled cowboy, a great horseman.
(especially in Mexican rodeo and roping
competitions)
Charro boots are ergonomically
designed for comfort and support. Made especially
for long hours of wear. The thick durable soles
& contoured heels are intended both for walking
& horseback riding. Soft glove linings add more
comfort. The high quality leather molds to
your feet over time.
An important part of Mexican
culture, the Los Altos Charro boots are finding
favor with non-Hispanic cultures too. It's become a
trendy fashion statement in urban settings. Mexican
tradition uses the "charro" boot with
horsemanship, a symbol of pride &
elegance. You'll appreciate the ankle support
offered.
This page also includes other "ankle
boots". Some kinda blend the traditional
Charro boot with more fashion & exotic eye

Your friends will tell you to buy a handcrafted boot because they also hold up well.
Los Altos boots are cut generously in size. They allow
comfortable room for your arches. Until they
break-in, they might slip on your heels. ( In fact
they are always going to slip a little, the design
is different than a short quarter shoe, so the
slight slipping will not rub blisters on your heels.
Rather, it adds to your foot comfort. See
the next few paragraphs too.)
The leather sole system,
with all sorts of foot fitting innards, provides a
shock absorbing, arch supporting, surface for most
casual and dress wearing conditions. Some of the
styles add a rubber or blended bottom to the leather outsole
system for even more durability.
Because of popular
demand, several soles are Leather with rubber
inserts. This gives a little more slip resistance
& durability to the traditional leather; still
allowing the comfort & support of hand-formed
leather soles. And the Biker boots &
Trucker boots will include rubber slip-resistant
soles. Several of these are now available in Exotic
skins.
Although a "cowboy
boot" is one of the first things you look for,
when dressing for cowboy events, people wearing Western dress
boots do not always wear them just to look like cowboys. The
arch support and quality craftsmanship allow us to
go all day without sore feet and aching backs or
legs. As you walk, Western style boots pump air
around your feet, which aids in dissipation of
moisture, and even more comfort for you. This is why
you do want some slippage on those heels!)
Proper foot care now, will pay tremendous
dividends in all your years to come. Cheap made shoes
create all sorts of problems with feet, knees, &
hips, years from now. And
soft bottom tennis shoes, designed for active
sports, were never made to wear all
day.

continue to search out the whole world for
the best values in Western boots, Cultured
Cowboy will keep adding pages! Los Altos
Boots have been around for decades. Plants
in the USA & Mexico. Inspecting their quality, it's a very nice
exotic boot for
the money. Exotics are their specialty, and
they offer a wide variety of styles in most
popular Western Exotic Boots.
Cultured Cowboy is tickled to provide these
guys for your selection.
These
boots are not using any endangered animals.
Alligators & Ostriches are a farm grown
food source in many parts of the world.
Piraracu comes from overpopulated areas of
the Amazon River. Lizards, snakes, and other
such creatures' features are also used with
careful consideration of humane animal control. Good
ecosystems depend on not wasting any part of
the animal.
If
there is any criticism of Los Altos Boots, it would be that
each boot is not always available in both D
& EE widths. Cultured Cowboy will be
happy to work with you as to which size
would be best for your particular needs.
Over time, Los Altos has been offering more
selection in both widths. However, their
more limited width selection means they can get
the ones they do make, faster for
deliveries. - Seems everyone has a
shortage of workers. This company does a
great job of training & quality control!

Rancher
Boots - super roper heel & a wide round
or square toe box Usually an 11 or 12 inch top.
European Square toe - Many companies call
this a "cutter toe". Easier to
catch a stirrup. extends further than a wide
square toe.
Rodeo Boot - Like the rancher with a Medium
square toe. Slight spur ridge. 12 inch top.
Popular with riders & spectators.
Roper Boot - An English Wellington. Rounded
toe, about a 1 inch block heel. Mostly 10
inch top.
Charro Boot - An ankle boot designed for
durability & comfort. Lateral support.
Usually elastic entry.
Side Zipper Boot - Usually a shorter shaft, the
zipper allows a more contoured upper fit; easier
entry for many wide or aged feet.
J toe Boots - Narrow Round toe. The more narrow
the toe, the more the front tip extends past
your actual toes. Toes don't cross. This adds
length appearance to many people sensitive about
wide feet.
R Toe Boots - Medium wide toes. This has been
the most popular style over the past decades.
Fashion comes & goes, but this toe has
passed timelessly.
U toe Boots - a wider round toe, not obnoxious,
but accommodates feet with wider toe box needs.
Square toe Boots - From the handmade square on
very pointed boots, snip toe boots, medium
square & wide square boots, choose a fashion
that fits both personality & feet. The
newest fashion statement in square toe boots is
the "cutter" toe : Medium square that
may or may not be slightly undercut.
Leather
sole boots - A favorite for dancing. With Los
Altos boots, there will be a matching leather
insole & A cork or similar midsole. Breaks
in well. Often maximum arch support. After a few
weeks, you can run your hand inside your boot
& feel every hump & bump made as it has
customized to your feet. Sometimes a thinner
cushion layer is placed over the leather insole.
Almost always there is a comfort heel pad over
the insole.
Rubber sole boots - Durable. Flexes well.
Usually with a cushioned insole. We almost
always give up some comfort in traditional
leather sole boots for the extended durability
of these "tire rubber" soles. Much
more slip resistant.
Combo sole boots - To allow the comfort
of leather with more durability, Some soles add
the rubber as inserts within the leather.
Stitched sole boots - Often with a Goodyear
welt. Can be resoled after wear by a reputable
shoe repair shop. Can be either leather or
rubber type outer sole. Stitching is usually a
durable nylon or blend. Often 3 resoles can
happen, then re-welting, and another couple
resoles after all that.
Injection Molded, or "Glue-On" sole
boots - Due to huge labor shortages & price
savings, these are being offered by most
production companies. They are more
"automated" in construction. They do
well unless you walk through a chemical that
cuts loose the glue bond. They do loosen over
time with all the tens of thousands of flexes
your footwear make while your wearing
them. Often, the better types can be
re-glued by a reputable boot repair shop.

Exotic Boot Care:
Reptile boots need a
reptile conditioner and delicate cream for
conditioning. These products are designed to condition
the scales and the membranes between the scales of the
exotic skin. Then, use a matching cream polish to
protect the boot from scuffs, or to cover existing
scuffs.
Ostrich boots need a
delicate cream for conditioning, and sometimes a de-salter
to remove salt from the skin. ( If you see white lines
after wearing, you need a de-salter. If the color
changes, it's your salt, not the de-salter. Apply
appropriate color cream polish.) These products
are designed to recondition this exotic skin. Leather
balm can be used to clean ostrich. Then, use a
matching cream polish to protect the boot from scuffs,
or to cover existing scuffs. Ditto most
non-scaled exotic boots.
Non-Exotic Leather
Boot Care:
All Leather is skin
removed from internal sources of moisture. Leather
Balm is a good "cleaner conditioner" that
will add moisture but do little change in the
coloration of leather once applied. Heavier
conditioning? Lexol Conditioner is great.
Cultured Cowboy carries both wax paste polish and
moist cream polishes. Use a complementing color
& apply as needed.
You might add Sno-Seal, Mink Oil, or Sno-Pruf for
waterproofing conditioners. Apply with a soft brush,
use a hair dryer about 1 foot away and let the
beeswax base melt into the leather pores, Do it
twice, especially the seams, and enjoy more weather
proofed protection. -Still breathes with your feet,
while keeping water out.
Cultured Cowboy has spray silicone & combo
water-proofers, but they totally seal & can add
heat to your feet. These silicone spray weather
protectors are better for fabrics, tents, etc.
There are some special weather-proofing agents that
will do well
with suede & roughout leathers.
There may be several boot
care products you are interested in. Just ask
about what all you may enjoy...boot hooks, boot jacks,
horsehair brushes to apply and polish, etc. We have it
all for you. You see, we want these boots to last a
good long time for you! Just a little care will make
them go a lot farther. Be sure to wipe the dust and
dirt off the skins with a soft cotton cloth each time
you take them off after wearing. This keeps dust and
dirt from cutting into the leathers.
